Feock Blackcap update: garden used as part of the BTO wintering blackcap study which finished in March 2022. Three colour ringed birds seen so far this winter:

1 male ringed here in March 2021 and seen here in subsequent winters. This bird was at least 2 years old when ringed and has been site-faithful for at least 3 years.

1 male ringed here in March 2022 and seen here in subsequent winters. This bird was in its 2^nd year when ringed and has been site faithful for at least 2 years.

1 female ringed 1 km away at Point in March 2022 and not seen here previously. This bird was in its 2^nd year when ringed.

During the study several ringed blackcaps ‘commuted’ between these two gardens.

In addition to the ringed birds I have seen at least another 5 male and 3 female blackcaps at any one time this winter and subsong is heard much of the day.
