Late News 02/5 Church Cove (Gunwalloe): 6 Sand Martin over the reed beds, but none at the colony in the cliffs, many Reed Warbler singing from the reeds (no Cetti’s heard), c50 Whimbrel in a cliff top field and 2 Wheatear on the golf course. (C Benton)
Late News 03/5 Lizard Point/Caerthillian area: 22+ Wheatear, 1 male Whinchat in corner of ploughed field with Wheatears, 1 Cuckoo at the bottom of Caerthillian, 1 Short-eared Owl c19:00 quartering fields around the top of Caerthillian and c120 Whimbrel together in cliff top fields above Pentreath, and other parties of up to c30 seen. Late News 04/5 Kynance Downs (from Mile End to Soap Cove and back around): 1 Spotted Flycatcher in sallows at Mile End, 1 Hobby at the top of the valley at Soap Cove, sat on a fencepost for 10mins, then drifted off NW, 1 Peregrine, regular parties of Swallows moving N across the downs; total in the hundreds, c20 Willow Warbler, c10 Chiffchaff, c20 Whitethroat, 7 Blackcap, 5 Sedge Warbler, 2 Grasshopper Warbler reeling, 13 Wheatear and 2 Cuckoo seen together near Windmill Farm, same/others heard across the downs. Marazion Marsh RSPB: 7 Grey Heron, 4 Mute Swan, 4 Canada Geese (plus 4 goslings), 2 Greylag, 2 hybrid geese, 7 Mallard, 2 Coot, 9 Moorhen, 1 Cormorant, 13 Whimbrel, pair of Sparrowhawk displaying, c10 Swift, c60 Swallow, c80 Sand Martin, c25 House Martin, 2 Wheatear, 1 Reed Bunting, Chiffchaffs, Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers and 3 Cetti’s Warbler. Also a Jackdaw with a Slow Worm which was seen to shed it’s tail and escape. (D Parker)
