Join us at Lower Tamar Lake on Friday 18 April to experience the wonder of a springtime dawn chorus as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. This is a joint event between South West Lakes Trust and Cornwall Birdwatching and Preservation Society.

Led by Cornwall Birds Vice-Chair and Ecologist Pete Roseveare, we will meet before dawn to hear the full symphony of bird song which is such a thrilling indicator that spring has begun.

Meet at 5.45am at Lower Tamar Lake Car Park.

Wear clothes and footwear suitable for the weather conditions. Bring binoculars if you have them.

Tamar Lakes is a particularly exciting site, offering a diverse range of habitats, from open water and reedbeds to woodland and scrub, creating the perfect conditions for a variety of bird species. This mix of environments should provide fantastic opportunities to hear and observe a wide range of birds in their natural setting.

Pete will help identify many of the species we hear, while also introducing new technologies for bird song identification, explaining how to use them effectively, and highlighting potential pitfalls. Additionally, Pete and Rod Mudge will discuss the ongoing willow tit colour-ringing project at Tamar Lakes, explaining its aims and what we hope to learn from this important conservation work. With luck, we may even catch a glimpse of a willow tit during the morning!
