Storm Petrel ringing demonstration
West Cornwall Ringing Group are again offering the opportunity for people to come and hopefully see some Storm Petrel ringing at Porthgwarra, near Land’s End.
Ringing will start at 11pm and people can drop in for as long as they like. We obviously can’t guarantee when (or if) we will catch birds, but later in the night is often better. We normally finish at 1-2am, but be aware that if conditions change we may have to cut short or cancel the session at short notice.
People will need to bring a torch of some sort as we’ll walk out along the moor at Porthgwarra. Also bring a chair if you don’t want to stand or sit on the ground for any length of time. It can also get surprisingly cold, so make sure you have a few extra layers. We’ll allow people to take photographs, but only when the team say so and please make sure you don’t use any flash, just our own torchlight.
Please park in the main car park at the bottom of the valley (note the new payment system) and walk up the road and through the gate to the NCI building at the top of the cliff. One of the ringing team will be on hand to pick people up from there and walk them out across the moor, so if you’re late please don’t try to find us at night!
There’s no cost and no need to book, but if you have any queries then please get in touch with Mark Grantham (webmaster@cbwps.org.uk).
