Ever wondered what has happened to the Ospreys you may have seen in Cornwall last autumn?

Well you may be in luck as we received the following update from Rupert Kirkwood recently:

“Exciting news about the two Scottish Ospreys that were in Fowey estuary Sept/Oct 2022. Blue 541 (pic, taken at Fowey 17 Oct 2022) was ringed close to fledging by Brian Etheridge at a man-made nest at Millbuie Forest, Black Isle, Highland on 14 July. Almost unbelievably, my contact called Joanna Dailey from Kielder Osprey project, who some friends of mine just happen to bump into on the plane back from Gambia, saw Blue 541s nest-mate Blue 543, in the Gambia a couple of weeks ago!

The second ringed Osprey, which I think was Blue 195, was ringed by Roy Dennis at Abernethy in 2019, and has since ben seen in Senegal!”

Its great to know that some Cornish fish allowed them to fuel up and continue their journeys on to wintering grounds! It also shows us the information that can be obtained from colour ringed birds and the incredible journeys they can make.
