Maer Lake Engineering Works

Maer Lake Engineering Works

The Environment Agency will be carrying out structural engineering works at Maer Lake from 2nd September for a two week period. The work will include the creation of a linear pond and three islands to provide additional habitats especially for Water Voles that are present in significant numbers in the reserve. Water Voles are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and are listed as rare and most threatened in the Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.
The work will be supervised by an ecologist from the EA who will be on site to ensure disturbance to the existing population is minimal. Cornwall Birds and Cornwall Wildlife Trust have been consulted and approved the works.
