Photo of the Week 10th-16th March 2025

This week we have to thank Adrian Lea who has reviewed the images captured by our members.

“The influx of spring migrants has certainly begun, and this has been reflected in the number of Wheatear reported and photographed during the previous week.
On Monday however it was the male Sparrowhawk photographed in a private garden by Martin Webb that provided the wow factor.
Tuesday saw the submission of some excellent photographs taken by Fary Afshar at Walmsley, in particular the Shoveler in flight.
On Wednesday T Wilson kindly provided some photographs of a Great While Egret in flight, taken the previous day at Porth Reservoir, while NR Rogers submitted some excellent photographs of the Bonaparte’s Gull at Hayle.
The Fulvous Whistling Duck (Robin Hampshire, Par) and the Green-winged Teal (Vic Booth, Wadebridge) continued to attract attention on Thursday, with an excellent Kestrel flight shot being submitted by Gerry Gillard.
On Friday Steve Rogers submitted a textbook image of a male Northern Wheatear at St Gothian and Nigel Rogers submitted some great images of the Kumlien’s Gull and the juvenile Iceland Gull, both at Polgigga.
On Saturday I particularly liked the Greenshank photograph taken by Martin Webb at Hayle and, closing the week on Sunday, John St Ledger was able to capture a good record shot of the male Scaup at Stithians Lake.

My photo of the week is the Sparrowhawk by Martin Webb, what a beautiful bird to photograph on your garden fence!

Many thanks to everyone who has submitted sighting reports and photographs to our sightings team, it really is greatly appreciated.”
