Adrian Lea returns from his rain forest travels to provide us with a review of the Recent Sightings images.
“The week began with a sterling Purple Sandpiper photograph taken by Alex McKechnie at Battery Rocks, a beautifully detailed image of these wintering guests.

On Tuesday, Matt Wilson was taking advantage of the new hide at Maer Lake to photograph a Whooper Swan while John Chapple kindly provided some video footage of a Pallas’s Warbler at Church Cove, Lizard which beautifully demonstrated why I find these birds so difficult to photograph!

On Thursday Rupert Kirkwood was again kayaking the River Lynher and provided some great Avocet photographs while Paul Howrihane provided a lovely Firecrest image photographed at Lower Tamar Lakes.

On Friday an excellent range of photographs was submitted, I particularly liked the Starling and Snow Bunting (Mark James), Chough (Aadil Khan) and the Blue Tit and Grey Plover (Martin Webb).

On Saturday Rebecca Bowyer did well to notice (and photograph) the well camouflaged Turnstone at Castle Beach and I also liked the Common Snipe photograph provided by Simon Willson.

The weather had clearly improved on Sunday, the brighter skies allowing some great images to be submitted with my favourites including the Great Northern Diver (Mark James), Rock Pipit (Martin Webb), Fieldfare (Gavin Williams), Sparrowhawks (Dean Pollard and Paul Davies) and the Kestrel (Dean Pollard).

Amongst the fabulous images submitted this week I particularly liked the Fieldfare by Gavin Williams, an excellent autumnal scene and well-framed amongst the hawthorn berries.
