Adrian Langdon has been busy painting hides this week but still has found time to provide us with his take on the fabulous pictures submitted to the sightings page.
“With passage migrants on the move our photographers have had an amazing week with their cameras. Thanks everyone for sending in your photos and your reports to the Sightings team.
Monday started the picture count well with a cracking Kingfisher by Gerry Gillard at Hayle. A Little Grebe with young on its back from Adrian Lea showed how late these birds breed, often with 3 broods. Mark James had a couple of super pics with a Med Gull and a Little Stint from Hayle.
I loved the wet and bedraggled Cattle Egret at Walmsley by Andy Tomkins and the Kestrel in flight by Harry W.
Gavin Williams’ Curlew Sandpiper taken at Davidstow was the leading image going into Wednesday, stunning image!
Adam Holmes had a cracking shot of a Swallow drinking at St.Gothian and Kate Dalziel’s photo of a Yellow Wagtail down on the Lizard also stood out.
Another Yellow Wagtail the following day from Steven Wood at Kynance along with a Redstart were great images.
Cue the Aquatic Warbler by Stuart Croft at Cadgwith, another super pic of a very rare bird. Friday also brought us a Great-crested Grebe from Jonathan Warner at Argal and Richard Loy’s pics of a White Stork on and over the beach at Widemouth Bay seemed to be oblivious to the other beach users.
The Sedge Warbler by Phil Taylor taken at Lands End was a standout image, very sharp, a soft blurred background and a good size in the frame.
On Saturday our regular kayak contributor Rupert Kirkwood submitted a cracking Common Tern taken between Lamorna and Penberth Cove, a beauty Rupert!
Whilst Alastair Swanson sent in two shots from Siblyback Lake, a Cormorant with a large trout and a Common Snipe, both quality photos.
Sunday saw Alastair capture a good shot of a Ruff, again at Siblyback, whilst we also had great photos of a Curlew Sandpiper from Mark James at Long Rock and a super Sandwich Tern from Gill Fisher.
Quite a week of top-quality photos and very difficult to separate a winner. But for me an image that oozed quality, but simplicity, was the Sedge Warbler by Phil Taylor. That is my Photo of the Week. Congratulations Phil!”
