Photo of the Week, 1st-7th December 2025

For the last time this year Jasmina Goodair has taken a look through the images submitted to the sightings team and chosen her favourite picture.

“A bit of a quieter week for photo entries due to some inclement weather -however some lovely contenders nonetheless from our intrepid photographers. Simon Willson started the week with a Goosander with lunch – an eel of some sort – clearly displaying its sawbill status. Tuesday, Rupert Kirkwood had a great composition of 3 Knots together. Thursday had some really nice shots of a Chough by Lynn Colliver, Yellow-Browed Warbler by Steve Ford and Stonechat by Deena Sharpe; Friday was a bit of a washout . On Saturday, Shaun Grose gave us a great shot of a male and female Goosander in flight. Seems a bit of an influx of these this week as I had 8 at Dozmary and Colliford also. Then on Sunday Martin Webb gave us some lovely shots of the White Stork and Sarah Talbot, a Snipe.
So I was left with 3 contenders Jonathan Warner’s Goosander on Wednesday was winning at one point – just seemed a lovely pose by the bird and a clean image, then Gavin Williams came up with 3 great images of a Redwing feeding but what won the day and had me going back in the end to Tuesday’s image by Mark James of the Lapwing. A clean sharp image of it dozing in the water but looking at the camera and showing off its beautifully iridescent feathers and head plumage with a lovely reflection in the water. Well done Mark and as always thank you to all who contribute”.
Thanks Jasmina and congratulations Mark on achieving your fourth accolade this year… well deserved.
