For the most part submissions for the period 20-26 Jan reflected the season with lots of images of grebes and divers including a lovely Black-necked Grebe in the Carrick Roads (John St Ledger, Adrian Lea & Gill Fisher), a nice study of a Little Grebe (Mark James) and the Mount’s Bay Pacific Diver (Nigel Rogers).
We also continued to receive photographs of the continuing Booted Eagle (S Nutton & Tony Wilson). Elsewhere Steve Rowe nicely captured yet another wintering Yellow-browed Warbler, and I enjoyed the images of some less frequently represented species on the sightings pages; Meadow Pipit (Rebecca Bowyer), Mandarin Duck (Nigel Bastin), Razorbill (Regina Griffiths) and Water Rail (Sarah Jane Eastman). Not to mention one species, Glossy Ibis, that Cornish birders are seeing in increasing numbers (J Lewis, S. Ford, Martin Webb & G. Gillard).
However for POTW I am going for Mark Whittaker’s pin sharp and perfectly exposed submission of a first winter Little Gull that he photographed on Par Beach Pool.
Thanks to Nick Watmough for this week’s review and congratulations to Mark for nicely capturing this fairly rare and local winter visitor.
