Many thanks to Adrian Langdon, our Walmsley warden, for going through this week’s wonderful selection of photos, submitted alongside the daily sightings. Here’s his take on the best images.
“The week started well with a cracking portrait of a drake Eider in eclipse plumage taken at Hannafore, Looe by Deena Sharp.

Ryans field at Hayle yielded a fine Common Sandpiper for Martin Webb and Ian Sowerby’s male Linnet caught the eye with its colourful plumage.

Martin Webb’s visit to Godrevy Point provided him with quite a haul of good images with a stunning juvenile Whitethroat alongside Stonechats and Linnets.

Two hobbies have been feeding on dragonflies at Walmsley sanctuary and many fine photos have been posted by Paul Davies, Adrian Davey, Paul Howrihane and Gavin Williams. A very fast and dynamic bird that pushes the limits of both camera and photographer!

Thursday’s photo of the day was a lovely shot of a Kestrel at Walmsley by Adrian Davey. A nice composition and made more special by the bird having just fledged young from a nestbox I put up at Middle Amble 3 years ago. The first time it had been used for nesting although it is a regular winter roost for a Barn Owl.

A Sparrowhawk with prey by Jonathan Warner in a private Breage garden showed us the fragility of life for garden birds.

Saturday produced a splendid portrait of a Sanderling on the beach at Long Rock by Alex McKechnie.

The same area was the site to find the much-travelled Laughing Gull (except when I went there last evening!). Looking at the photos for Sunday I think it stayed quite distant for Mike Spicer and Nigel Rogers but looks like it came closer in the next few days.

A Dunlin by Adam Holmes; Grasshopper warbler with a caterpillar and spider by Adrian Lea both deserve praise as does the 3 Cattle Egrets and flying Gadwall by Paul Davies at Walmsley.

I could very easily select a dozen images from my favoured Walmsley but this week’s Photo of the Week goes to Alex McKechnie for his fine portrait of a Sanderling at Long Rock, Penzance.”
