Photo of the Week, 23rd-29th June 2025

Thanks again to Adrian Langdon who takes responsibility for choosing this weeks favourite image and providing a commentary on the his choice of pictures.

“A low entry of photos to the sightings page this week with one totally blank day and another limited to a single image.

However those photos that were submitted were of a high standard with quite a variety of species.

The sightings pages would be a lot less attractive without the regular contributions from Martin Webb, thanks Martin!

Mondays visit to his Carnkie ponds by a juvenile Grey Heron produced some fine shots for Adrian Lea and in one of his pictures you can see the feathers coming out of quills on the bird’s crown.

A simple composition of a Sand Martin at St.Gothian by Martin Webb also stood out from the crowd.

On Tuesday Martin Yelland sent in a cracking shot of a Barn Swallow feeding its newly fledged offspring with a bill crammed with flying insects. A superb behavioural photograph.

On Wednesday seabirds hogged the limelight with Gannets and Kittiwakes by Adam Holmes taken at Sally’s Bottom, Porthtowan.

Yet again Martin Webb added the extras with a fine image of a male Linnet bathing, again at St.Gothian.

Thursday was a blank day but a fine picture of a kestrel just taking-off showed the bird off well and was a top quality image for Aadil Khan.

Sunday brought a great portrait of one of the Croft Pascoe’s Spotted Flycatchers by Aadil and an unusual shot of a Sparrowhawk perched on a fallen bough in Marazion marsh by Martin Webb.

There were a few photos in the running this week but I have no hesitation in awarding Photo of the week to Martin Yelland for his top quality shot of feeding Barn Swallows at St.Erth.

Congratulations Martin!”
