“This week’s images of the Ross’s Gull at the Newlyn Harbour area, a rare visitor from the high Arctic, dominated the sent in images. Despite a rather wet week yet again, our photographers were out in force. Some of the excellent ones of Ross’s Gull were by Jon Irvine and Adrian Davey on Monday, Deena Sharp on Tuesday against the St Michael’s Mount backdrop – very atmospheric, Mark James also on Tuesday, Kathy White on Thursday, Stuart Croft on Friday, Martin Webb on Saturday and Darrell Clegg on Sunday.

Other images that appealed were Andy Tomkins’ Lesser Scaup on Wednesday, Vic Booth’s Coal Tit on Thursday and his Shelduck and pair of Goosander on Friday. 

Also on Friday Martin Webb gave us some lovely images of the long staying Lesser Yellowlegs, a Greenshank and a Redshank. Saturday Adil Khan produced a charming image of a pair of Choughs and finally on Sunday A. Kirk had a lovely Long tailed Tit and Great spotted Woodpecker.

Unsurprisingly Ross’s Gull gets the Photo of the Week; I struggled which to choose wrestling with Darrell Clegg’s sharp image showing this elegant little gulls upper view in flight, or Jon Irvine’s one in flight carrying something in its beak equally sharp and Adrian Davey’s image of the underside showing the pink blush which characterises some of its breeding plumage. Well done  Darrell, you captured the detail of the bird’s markings very well in a clean sharp image – you have Photo of the Week.
