Photo of the Week, 26th May-1st June 2025

With one of the adjudication team tied up with travel commitments, its second week in a row for Adrian Langdon to choose Photo of the Week. Thanks Adrian. Here’s his take on this week’s excellent images.

‘Monday started off with a super photo of a Common Swift by P. Harris.
A stunning Greenfinch in hawthorn blossom caught my eye, taken by Adrian Lea at Carnkie.
I particularly like the composition of a Meadow Pipit at St.Gothian by Sarah Talbot and another pipit from Aadil Khan at Portreath was also a fine image.

Mike Scawin posted a cracking shot of a Grey Partridge taken out at the Rumps near to Polzeath. I thought the focus was spot on especially as the bird was in long grass making auto focusing difficult.
Martin Webb produced a great set of images from Hayle causeway on Wednesday including Little Egret, Grey Heron, Oystercatcher and Bonaparte’s Gull.

A couple of top pictures of Spotted Flycatcher by Adrian Lea were achieved at Croft Pascoe, these were quality pictures.

Friday brought a fine selection of Great Northern Divers from Steve Rogers taken at Porthgwarra. A Great-crested Grebe nesting at Porth reservoir by Patricia Bullen was another good picture.
Martin Webb posted 2 very different pictures of a Grey Heron at Marazion and Gerry Gillard’s colour ringed Curlew at RSPB Ryan’s field all showed Cornish birdlife in its best light.

A Common Whitethroat with a sprig of grass in its beak was a serious contender from Jasmina Goodair taken at the Rumps along with a Rock Pipit, Stonechat and a singing Wren.

On Sunday we were treated to a family shot of some Wheatears at Marsland Mouth in the north of the county by Stevan Windle. Also we started seeing a host of photos of the Whiskered Tern that was showing well at Loe pool from Adrian Lea and Steven Wood.

To conclude I’ve looked at some great photos but for me the one that sticks in my mind is the Grey Partridge photo by Mike Scawen and that is my Photo of the Week.
Congratulations Mike, top image!’
