This week we have to thank Jasmina Goodair as it was her turn to review and comment on the images sent in by our keen photographers. Nice choice Jasmina and well done Paul.

“Despite some poor weather during this week, surprisingly mild but frequently wet and windy, the photographers were out in force and took some great pictures of a large variety of local birds and migrants.
The Steppe Grey Shrike continued to make an appearance with a good capture by Alan Lobb on Wednesday but that was the last of it as it was gone by Thursday when I tried to find it!!
The confiding Lesser Scaups at Helston boating lake certainly kept many of us busy, many excellent shots of individuals and the pair together by many including Alan Lobb, Steve Wood, Adrian Lea, Steve Ford, Mark Jones, Martin Webb, Mark James and Alex Mckecnie – in fact so many images it was impossible to choose a clear favourite.
Martin Webb was in good form this week starting with a handsome stork on Monday followed by beautifully detailed images of a pair of Shovelers, a Linnet and a lovely group of shots of the Lesser Yellowlegs which remains with us in Truro.
Vic Booth had a charming Long-tailed Tit image and Adrian Lea captured a delightful series of images of a Goldcrest and Firecrest.
The appearance of the Greenland White fronted Geese kept cropping up and I did like Steve Cox’s image and the interesting one of it stood upright showing its front well by Sarah Talbot. The Snow Buntings have eluded me this week but some great images by Deena Sharp and Jeff Horsey.

Having gone through the images numerous times there were two I kept going back to. I loved the Slavonian Grebe, the way it looked back at the photographer with its feathers and eye well defined with a pleasing reflection in the water.

However I finally went with the Blue winged Teal in flight by Paul Hall who has only this week joined us. Well done Paul. I felt the image of a rare visitor showed its plumage clearly and it was seemingly looking your way.
