“What a difference the spring sunshine makes, and this has certainly been reflected in the photographs received by our sightings team. On Monday Rupert Kirkwood submitted some beautiful Puffin and Manx Shearwater images, particularly skilful given that they were taken from a kayak, while Martin Webb provided some lovely Common Sandpiper, Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff photographs taken at Ryan’s Field. Tuesday saw the submission of an excellent Cetti’s Warbler photo taken at Marazion Marsh by Alex McKechnie and a Night Heron at Walmsley by Adrian Langdon. On Wednesday I really liked the Little Egret photographed by Caroline Taylor at Ryan’s Field. Gill Fisher managed to capture a Green Sandpiper in flight at Chapel Amble on Thursday and I wish I’d seen the two Spoonbills preening at Marazion Marsh photographed nicely by Steve Cox. On Friday Rupert Kirkwood was risking his camera in that kayak again, this time taking some great Razorbill and Manx Shearwater images while also evading a Minke Whale off the coast at Boscastle/Tintagel. Saturday brought us the spectacular Goldfinch in flight taken by Fary Afshar at Walmsley and on Sunday Nigel Rogers provided an important record shot of the distant and often elusive Savi’s Warbler at Marazion.
My photo of the week is the Puffin in flight by Rupert Kirkwood, an excellent photograph, particularly given that it was taken while sea kayaking!
