Thanks to Jasmina Goodair for looking through the photographic highlights submitted to our daily sightings page. Here’s her comments and her chosen picture.
‘This week’s images showed that we are in the full swing of fledgling season with some delightful images of young birds or adults feeding and catching insects. Thankfully this year there seems more insects about which crucially supports our bird population.
Sarah Talbot’s portrait of a Rook, Simon Willson’s Linnet feeding in a meadow and Caroline Taylor’s creative silhouette image of two Ravens flying, started the week off.
Followed by Sarah’s Swallow on Tuesday – a quiet day for images as was Thursday. I did like Jonathan Warner’s Kestrel taking off mid-week.
Adrian Lea gave us a wonderful collection of portraits during the week of a variety of birds and I particularly liked his Greenfinch, Crossbill, Sedge Warbler and House Sparrow. John St Ledger gave us a charming image of Great Crested Grebe parents swimming, each carrying a “humbug” chick.
Saturday, we saw a great shot of a Swift flying with a very full crop by Steven Wood and a Cuckoo with Caterpillar dangling from its beak by Simon Wilson.
The week came to a close with delightful shots of a Moorhen chick by Samuel Norris and Little Grebe by Rupert Kirkwood.

I liked so many of the images it was a hard choice but Adrian Lea’s midweek shot of the Spotted Flycatcher with its quarry is my decision- lovely clear shot with a great diffused background – lovely composition – well done.
