We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of Royston Wilkins. Royston was a birding legend in Cornwall and a proud member of Cornwall Birds. Our thoughts and condolences go to his family at this sad time.

I am sure many of you reading this will have fond memories of spending time with Royston out in the field over the years. His love of birds and birding was likely unparalleled and inspiring to many.

Royston’s charm, infectious sense of humour and playful Cornish wit ensured he was part of everything to do with birds across the county. From birding to twitching, seawatching and ringing, he embraced it all and the people along the way.

The Cornish birding scene won’t ever be the same without Royston, he had a character that is simply irreplaceable. I feel lucky to have known him as a good friend and will cherish the great memories I have of him. Royston will be sorely missed by us all.
