Truro: Roof nesting gulls have had a fairly successful season despite demolition work, increased netting and falcon alarm calls being played at them. Of 59 Herring Gull nests monitored 37 were successful fledging 53 chicks, of 7 Lesser Black-backed Gull nests monitored 6 were successful fledging 11 chicks and 1 pair of Great Black-backed Gull fledged 2 chicks. Most failures were due to predation by other gulls at the egg and early chick stages. (D Eva)
