Late news, 20 – 22/1, Report from a visiting birder: Tuesday 20th St Mawes Boat Yard Quay Percuil River:  6 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Slavonian Grebe, 1 m Blackcap, 1 Dartford Warbler (also appeared to be coming to feeder). Field at end of footpath before climbing away from river: 1 Song Thrush, Flock of Linnet. Over hill to main road: 8 Mistle Thrush. St Just Pool: 1 Spotted Redshank, 2 Greenshank, 3 Red-breasted Merganser, 2 Slavonian Grebe, 1 Red-necked Grebe. Undisclosed location: 11 Cirl Bunting (one with colour-ringed – right leg: red over green, left leg: red over white). Journey back to St Mawes: 1 Whimbrel. Wednesday 21st Padstow Harbour:  1 Kingfisher. Healey’s Cider Farm: 1 Yellow-legged Gull (on post in entrance to farm). St Mawes Beach area: 1 Whimbrel and 1 Rock Pipit. Thursday 22nd Falmouth, Castle Beach: Diver species x 1 (Too far out to identify just with the bins), 3 Crested Grebe. Bushes and rocks below view point: 1m + 1f Black Redstart, 1m + 1f Stonechat (both species being constantly harassed by a photographer who appeared as if he wanted to get them on the end of his ‘ Jodrel Bank type’ lens.) Harbour: 1 Little Gull. Truro River: 3 Avocet, 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Slavonian Grebe, 30 Black-tailed Godwit and 100 Dunlin. (D Eva)

College Reservoir: 1 Yellow-browed Warbler and 2 Scaup. (D Eva)

Stithians Reservoir: 1 Slavonian Grebe still present. (D Eva) plus 2 Goldeneye, other waterfowl as usual, although didn’t see any Shoveler. Feeders: 1 Water Rail, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Reed Bunting, 9 Long-tailed Tit, 12 Redwing with 4 Snipe and 14 Teal from S Hide. (D Chaney + S Perfect)
