Stithians: Breeding birds have taken a real bashing from the wet and cold weather. Early brood sizes have been very low due to chick starvation. For example: Magpies fledged 4 chicks from 8 eggs, Great Tit fledged 3 chicks from 9 eggs, Great Tit fledged 2 chicks from 8 eggs, 4 pairs of Linnet fledged 6 chicks ( broods of 2 and 4, 2 nests predated ). Hopefully later nests will be more successful and the weather warms up soon. ( D Eva )
