Yesterday (15th August) 20 dead Herring Gulls were found on the beach between Marazion and Long Rock. These had been washed away before they could be collected, but anyone finding >3 dead seabirds (including gulls) should report them to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Marine Strandings Network hotline (0345 201 2626 – www.cornwallwildlifetrust.org.uk/strandings). In all such cases the incident will need to be reported to Defra which CWT will do (per M Grantham).

Porthgwarra, Hella Point 06:00-15:30: 11 Common Scoter, 23 Great Shearwater, 62 Sooty Shearwater, 12 Balearic Shearwater, 18 Storm Petrel, 1 Whimbrel, 4 Great Skua, 2 juv Med Gull, 4 Sandwich Tern, 2 Commic Tern and 8 Chough. (DK Parker et al)

Porthgwarra Cove (07:00-09:30): 5 Great Shearwater west & 1 east, 9 Sooty Shearwater west & 1 east, 1 Balearic Shearwater west, 5 Storm Petrel west, 6 Common Scoter east, 1 Arctic Skua east, 4 Bonxie west & 20 Common Dolphin. (D Flumm)

Marazion Marsh RSPB, Longrock Pool: 1 juv Garganey still, 2 Gadwall; 3 Turnstone and 1 Dunlin through. (R Veal)

Scillonian Crossing, am: 1 Great Shearwater, 1 Cory’s Shearwater, 5 Sooty Shearwater.

Walmsley Sanctuary (members only): 4 Cattle Egret (2 ad, 2 juv), 1 Little Egret, 120 Canada Goose, 3 Wigeon, 1 Green Sandpiper, 1 Greenshank, 20 Swift, 30 Barn Swallow and 5 House Martin but no Glossy Ibis at midday. (N Paul) 2 Glossy Ibis and 4 Cattle Egret later reported from Tower Hide.

Kingsmill Lake: 115 Curlew, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 27 Greenshank this morning. (M Beer)

The Rumps and Pentire Point: 3 Fulmar, c40 Manx Shearwater, 15 Gannet, 7 Cormorant, 16 Shag, 1 Buzzard, 5 Kestrel, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Great Black-backed Gull, 45 Herring Gull, 2 Wood Pigeon, 1 Swift, 24 Swallow, 4 Rock Pipit, 1 Wheatear, 3 Stonechat, 2 Magpie, 3 Rook, 2 Carrion Crow, 2 Raven, 4 House Sparrow, 5 Goldfinch, c50 Linnet. Also 1 Grey Seal, 5 Large White, 1 Meadow Brown, 1 Wall Brown, 1 Oak Eggar, 1 Fox Moth caterpillar. (M Scawen et al)
