Dave Flumm sent us the article below about the hundreds of dead and dying Great Shearwaters off the eastern seaboard of the States last month.This might explain why we’ve had so many in the SW Approaches so early and in such numbers, and may also have some bearing on the unprecedented Wilson’s Petrel influx. Maybe they have been struggling to follow their “normal” route and unable to counter the winds have ended up over here earlier than usual? –
