Flushing rare birds: the juvenile Purple Heron which had taken up residence for the last couple of weeks in the reedbed at Sett Bridge was flushed yesterday by a birder walking up through the habitat. That heron hasn’t been seen today at all. This should be a reminder to us all to respect all wildlife, give them their space, and if you want to see a rarity just be a little more patient, don’t go charging in. (tdm)

Davidstow Airfield: 1 Buff-breasted Sandpiper still. Davidstow Airfield is an active airfield and we have been reminded that there is NO freedom to roam here and that cars must NOT drive onto the airfield at all. We have been advised that we can WALK onto the grassy areas, but not the runways. Cars should be parked alongside the road. Failure to comply could lead to access being withdrawn altogether.
