Photo of the Week 10th-16th February 2025

We have to thank Adrian Lea for perusing this week’s selection of superb photos and arriving at an excellent choice for PotW.

‘At last the days are getting longer, although some blue skies would be very welcome. The grey skies certainly haven’t prevented the submission of some great photos during the previous week however, I particularly liked the Barnacle Goose photographed by M Whittaker at Par on Monday and the Black-nceked Grebe photographs submitted by G Gillard and John St Ledger. On Tuesday Adrian Langdon was clearly having a great time at sea from Trevose Head to the Strangles, but I particularly liked the Grey Plover photographed at Carnsew Pool by Martin Webb, and I also love his Sanderling photo at Penzance on Wednesday. On Thursday Peter Tongue submitted a cracking photo of a Raven at Godrevy, the plumage detail looks great. On Saturday Mark James provided one of his signature tack-sharp images, this time capturing the female Long-tailed Duck at Newquay and on Sunday we were blessed with a Gadwall braving the waves at Stithians Lake by John St Ledger.
My photo of the week is the Kingfisher by Adrian Langdon, what a great contrast between the drab harbour wall and the iridescent Kingfisher, technicolour enough to brighten a dull February!
Many thanks to everyone who has submitted sighting reports and photographs to our sightings team, it really is greatly appreciated.’

Congratulations Adrian on capturing a great photo!
