Another exciting week during our spring migration period with an influx of Hoopoes plus a few particularly rare species and some wonderful photographs from our contributors. Bright days but cold northerly winds continued for a part of the week but then a change brought easterlies later in the week.

On Monday there were 8 Hoopoe sightings recorded plus a lovely White Wagtail image by Adrian Lea and the Ashy-headed Wagtail image by S. Windle. Tuesday saw more Hoopoe sightings as well as a great Wryneck image by Trounce Guy, gorgeous Kestrel by Caroline Taylor and Spoonbill images by Martin Webb and Gerry Gillard. Wednesday I particularly liked Andy Tomkins Hoopoe. Thursday were 3 great images, the Booted Eagle flight shot, delightful portrait shot of the Barn Owl by Harry Williams and the Spoonbills seemingly greeting each other by Martin Webb. On Friday I liked Adrian Langdon’s Raven and Gerry Gillard’s Kestrel and Saturday Nigel Bastion’s Wheatear.

With so many great images this was another tough week to judge. I really loved Adrian Lea’s Starling shot with nesting material – lovely colouring in the sunshine but my final choice went to Gerry Gillard’s Meadow Pipit. This image was sharp and well composed and it clearly showed the features that define it, particularly the long hind claws. Well done to all who send in their images and support the sightings page.
